Covered stair

This outside staircase , facing southwest , was getting all the weather , the best way of effectively protecting it was to roof over it .

The carefully measured and assembled timbers were passed over with an adze to get rid of the marks left by the saw mill . The tool on the left of this picture , however , is an axe !

Once in place it marries in well with the architecture staying in tune with the traditional building style .

Once slated the roof protects the stairs from the rain while letting in the low winter sun , and in summer provides shade and shelter from the overhead sun on hot days . An agreeable place to read a book on a lazy Sunday afternoon !

A woodstore extension to an existing barn .

A woodstore extension to an existing barn provides covered space , against the gable out of the
prevailing winds , ensuring a handy supply of dry wood to warm the hearth during the dark winters .
Roofed in the same way as the barn is clad , it blends in perfectly with it's surroundings .

The house at Elfen .

A project I have been working on with friends . A cottage on the end of a row , years of neglect had left it roofless with all the woodwork rotted away . This house is for sale , details available from the Notaires in Huelgoat .

Summer 2012 , the wettest in living memory ?

We all need a roof !
